History of The Guitar Mama
It all began when a thirteen-to-be year old wanted a guitar for her birthday.  An electric guitar with an amp.  Mom took her to the music store, and changed her life forever.  She had a lesson, went home and almost immediately took all the screws, springs, strings and other things off the instrument.  Her second guitar lesson was putting the thing back together.  Two years later she was offered a job at the same music store, Tempo Music Center, and worked there for nearly a decade.  During that time she apprenticed for nine months under David Simmons, Simmons Guitars, to learn the trade of Lutherie (the building and repair of musical instruments).  At age 18 she started her own business, and five years later went to work for Simmons Guitars building high end electric basses for two years.  In April of 2010, Autumn Greenfield opened The Guitar Mama, her own retail and repair shop in West Asheville.  Stop by soon!
The Guitar Mama's People
Jim Aaron has been a huge help in getting The Guitar Mama going, from building displays to working for free every Saturday (although there is usually more jamming than working going on).  Jim is an accomplished musician, playing Harmonica, Guitar, Banjo, Clarinet, Piano and Bass.  He has played with many local, regional and national acts, including The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown with George Clinton.  Not your typical harp player, Jim is highly skilled in Funk, Swing, Bluegrass, Soul, Jazz, Blues, Country and many other styles of music.  He is available for live performances and studio sessions.  Call him at (828) 702-2619 or stop by on Saturday to play!
Why Fix That Old Guitar?
To keep a new one from being made!  Your old Stella, Harmony, Kay or whatever can be saved and you will have a much nicer guitar than buying a new factory built one for $100 or less!  There are some projects that are beyond help, but you never know until you ask!  Repair estimates are free!  Besides, old guitars have great character and unique voices! Help save the American economy by buying and fixing locally!
